Facebook Q&A - December 28, 2011

Stacey Lynn Stofko asked: “I would like to know about warming/cooling shelters – where are they?”

Stacey:

The warming and cooling shelters are located at Westfield Mall (3340 Mall Loop Drive), Morningstar Mission (350 East Washington Street), Daybreak Shelter (611 East Cass Street) and the Joliet Public Library in the downtown area (150 North Ottawa Street). A press release is sent out by the City’s Emergency Management Agency when the shelters are open. This information will also be posted on our Facebook page, Twitter and Nixle feeds, and on our website.

“Is there a Citizens’ Police Academy or a CERT program?”

Yes, there is a Citizen Police Academy. The 2012 classes will begin on February 6th. Information about the Citizen Police Academy is available on our website. We will also have more information about it in an upcoming Facebook update.

Lindsey Susner Ryan asked: “I’d like to know why I see police officers texting & driving when it’s against the law. One should set a good example.”

Lindsey:

There is an exemption in the law for emergency responders allowing them to text while driving. You can read more about this law on the Illinois General Assembly’s website under 625 ILCS 5/12-610.2. Often times, officers receive information regarding calls from citizens about law enforcement issues and related incidents. This being the case, I strongly recommend to all of our officers to pull over whenever possible and to text in a safe manner.

Nicole Trafton asked: “Why is Mike Trafton so cool?”

Nicole:

… because his daughter is awesome.

Luis Hernandez asked: “When is the Wilco criminal justice class getting their new squad car?”

Luis:

I just checked with our Motor Maintenance Division. The vehicle is almost completed and should be done by the end of the week. It will then become Wilco property.
