On January 31, 2012, four burglaries were committed in various parts of Joliet. Officers were dispatched to a call of a burglary in the 2700 block of Richmond Street. A description of a white Oldsmobile Alero was given as a possible suspect vehicle. A vehicle matching that description drove past Officer Carroll in a reckless manner. Officer Carroll followed the vehicle and saw it back into a driveway in the 1600 block of North Hickory Street in Crest Hill. A burglary detail comprised of several officers set up surveillance on the vehicle and they observed male subjects removing and placing items into the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped by officers a short time later. Officers recovered a black safe with paperwork from an address in the 200 block of Union Street. Officers went to that address and discovered the rear door had been forced open. The victims from both the addresses on Union Street and Richmond Street were able to identify items recovered from the vehicle as being their property.
Several subjects were arrested as a result of the investigation. Nestor Guzman of Joliet was charged with four counts of burglary, Jose L. Aguirre of Joliet was charged with three counts of burglary, Victor Ramirez of Joliet was charged with three counts of burglary, and a juvenile was charged with three counts of burglary and possession of stolen property.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence on North Hickory Street and several proceeds from the burglaries were recovered. Officers recovered a television, laptop computers, stereo speakers, a Nintendo gaming system, three paintball guns, a Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming system and a backpack with several DVDs and Xbox games.
A search of the Oldsmobile Alero yielded 19 Xbox games, jewelry, a black iPod Touch, a black safe, an HP computer system, and a plastic change bank.
Consent to search was obtained for one of the subject’s residences. Officers recovered a television and a laptop computer.
Officers also found items from burglaries that occurred in the 1500 block of Vernon Avenue and the 1100 block of Holmes Avenue.
The Joliet Police Department’s Investigations Division assisted officers with interviews and officers were able to
close out two Joliet burglary cases and a Crest Hill burglary case.
Chief Trafton wishes to congratulate all of the officers involved for their teamwork. Remember to call 9-1-1 if you see suspicious activity taking place.
