The Joliet Police Department, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, will participate in a statewide effort to reduce drunk drivers over the Super Bowl weekend. Special enforcement efforts will include several roadside safety checkpoints at various locations throughout the city.
Officers assigned to these details will be checking for impaired drivers as well as other violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code with an emphasis on alcohol, insurance, occupant restraint, and child restraint violations.
Joliet Police Chief Mike Trafton warns motorists, “Cops will sack drunk drivers because we will be out in force during the Super Bowl weekend.” “We want people to enjoy the football game,” said Chief Trafton, “but we also want everyone to make it back home safely.” The Joliet Police Department would like to remind revelers to plan ahead and designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get a ride home.
This enforcement campaign is possible through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and will help to reduce the amount of impaired and unsafe drivers before, during and after the Super Bowl festivities.
