Traffic Enforcement

 

The Traffic Unit is a separate support unit to the patrol division and has many traffic safety related duties and responsibilities. Traffic Unit Officers conduct typical traffic safety duties such as traffic law enforcement in an effort to reduce the frequency and severity of traffic crashes. Some of the responsibilities and capabilities of the Traffic Unit include but are not limited to the following:

  • Traffic Crash Investigation
  • Traffic Crash Reconstruction
  • Hit & Run Investigation
  • Commercial Truck Enforcement
  • School Crossing Guard Program
  • I.D.O.T. Traffic Safety Enforcement Grant Administration
  • Special Events
  • Abandoned Vehicle Program
  • Speed Enforcement
  • Seatbelt Enforcement
  • Child Safety Seat Enforcement
  • Handicapped Parking Enforcement
  • DUI Enforcement
  • Traffic Control Device Enforcement (Traffic Lights & Stop Signs)
